Recently, I watched a video filmed by an American couple who visited Istanbul as tourists. The video was titled Turkish Street Food, BEST in the WORLD? Throughout the video, they explore the streets of Istanbul, tasting various Turkish dishes. It’s a beautiful and entertaining video – I must say I really enjoyed it.
However, there was a part in the video that made me laugh a lot. As you can see at 11:15 in the video below, she takes a ready-made lemonade from the fridge and says, “Time to get something to drink… let’s pick the thing we haven’t tried or don’t know what on Earth. I think this is Turkish… Lemonlü – lemon is in everything in Turkey.”
Dude, it’s just lemonade, it literally says “limonata” on the bottle. Limonata = lemonade. Plus, it’s not even homemade – it’s industrially produced, just a regular store-bought lemonade, and honestly, I don’t even find it that tasty. Not everything in Turkey has to be exotic or orientalist.
Even funnier, even after she started sipping it, she still didn’t realize that it was just regular lemonade. She still thought she was drinking an exotic Turkish beverage. And she really liked it (which I’m glad about, but honestly, it’s not that delicious of a drink – one can easily find a much better hand-made lemonade in Istanbul).
